Fourth Grade Homework Expectations

Responsibility is the Key to Success!

Students in fourth grade are asked to be responsible for completing and turning work in on time. Organization is a key to success in life, and our planners play a huge part in organizational success at school. Parents are asked to help with this organizational piece by signing and reviewing the planner nightly, Monday through Thursday, to help keep your student on track. As a parent your signature indicates that you have seen the planner and are aware of your student's homework assignments.

Unfinished Work

Any unfinished class work, including math, writing, or literacy responses, will be sent home to complete. It is also due the next day.

Math

Fourth graders are expected to spend 5 minutes daily practicing basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). In addition, math homework will be sent home several times a week. These assignments should be returned the next day.

Spelling

New spelling sorts (words grouped and sorted according to spelling patterns) are sent home every Thursday. Students practice the word sorts and spelling the words correctly during the week at school and at home. Spelling tests are on Thursdays.

Home Reading
Fourth graders are expected to read 30 minutes a night. If a child reads onlu in school, they may learn to read, but may not be a good reader. Reading takes practice EVERY day. Please encourage your child to read every day at home. If your child is below grade level in reading, they will not catch up by reading only at school.
